The “Festa de l’Estendard” in Palma de Mallorca, since the 13th century, commemorates the entry of Jaume I, the Conqueror, which marked the end of the Almohad kingdom in Mallorca. It begins on December 30 with institutional events, save the Virgin of Health and offerings. December 31 stands out with the placing of the banner in the Plaza de Cort, guarded by the Honor Guard. The cathedral hosts a mass presided over by the Bishop and traditional dances. Then, a procession returns to the square, raises the banner and represents “La Colcada”, honoring the history and traditions of the city.
