The Festivities of the King in Jaume in Calvià are an annual event that commemorates the landing of King Jaume I on the island of Mallorca 795 years ago. These festivities, celebrated in Santa Ponça, offer a mix of tradition, culture and fun.

During the months of August and September, residents and visitors of Calvià participate in a variety of activities. Some highlights include:

  1. Election of Kings: The leaders of the Christian and Saracen groups select the kings of the festivals. Candidates demonstrate their sword skills and answer historical questions.
  2. Historical Reenactment: Bernat Carrot, passionate about the Middle Ages, advises on the authenticity of the clothing, swords and shields used by the kings. The suits, property of the council, weigh around 10 kilograms due to the metal parts.
  3. Traditional Acts: They include meetings of giants, popular dances, a medieval market, the Saracen parade and a solemn mass.
  4. Rei En Jaume Awards: Prizes are awarded in categories such as comics and photography.

For this reason, don't miss the Festes del Rei in Jaume, they are an opportunity to immerse yourself in the history and culture of Mallorca while enjoying the camaraderie and excitement of the festivities. 🎉🏰🗡️
